Celebrating Easter Locally & Globally at St John’s College

At St John’s College, the celebration of Greek Orthodox Easter is much more than tradition — it is an active, living experience of faith, culture, and community. This year, our students once again had the extraordinary opportunity to showcase their talents on a global platform, participating in a project organised by Ant1 Pacific, one of the leading voices in Greek media.

Through this initiative, which we proudly began in 2023, our students chanted Easter hymns, adding their voices to a global chorus of young Greeks from around the world. Their performance demonstrated not only their musical talents, but also their deep connection to their Hellenic heritage and Orthodox faith. It was a reminder that through the nurturing of language, song, and tradition, we keep the spirit of Hellenism alive for generations to come.

Beyond their global contribution, students also engaged in a series of meaningful experiences within the school community:

  • In Greek classes, they explored the meaning of Easter, delving into the traditions, symbolism, and history of the Holy Week.
  • Members of the chanting choir contributed reverently to the Holy Week services, enriching the spiritual life of our school community.
  • The College Drummers had the distinct honour of leading the Epitaph procession with their solemn rhythms on Good Friday, accompanying His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia at the Holy Monastery of Axion Estin.

These opportunities — both local and global — allow our students to express their faith, talent, and cultural pride, and demonstrate the depth of their passion for Hellenism. They foster a sense of identity that is not limited to the classroom, but which connects them to the wider Greek and Orthodox world.

At St John’s College, Hellenism is at the heart of everything we do. We are committed to offering our students authentic experiences that celebrate and strengthen their cultural and spiritual identity.

A heartfelt thank you to Ant1 Pacific for their support, collaboration, and commitment to showcasing the talents of Greek youth on a global stage. Their partnership helps create invaluable moments of pride, connection, and inspiration for our students.

As we reflect on this Easter season, we are reminded once again that when students engage with their culture and faith, they not only learn about the world — they take their place in it.
